About the Awards

The Fab City Awards is a contest aimed at highlighting exceptional projects worldwide that promote self-sufficiency and sustainable living, fostering a global repository of best practices for urban and rural challenges.

This second edition marks a milestone, celebrating a decade of collaboration toward our 2054 goal of urban self-sufficiency. While progress continues, we acknowledge much work lies ahead. We aspire for the Awards to engage, invite, and inspire our community and the world to learn from one another to take localized action.

The Awards attract a diverse audience dedicated to innovation and sustainability: creative industries, makers, and governments promoting local production; community leaders implementing inclusive solutions; academia addressing real-world challenges; entrepreneurs creating impactful technologies, and more. The contest targets those committed to positive change and planetary impact through innovation and communal initiatives.

We seek projects aligned with this year’s themes: Technologies, Communities, and Ecosystems. Have you developed innovative technology advancing sustainability or embraced regenerative principles for circular impact in your bioregion? Is your focus on social inclusion, community engagement, empowerment, or led by marginalized communities? Or does your project encompass all of the above?

Apply between March 4th and April 29th for a chance to win exciting prizes, including a 50% scholarship for MDDI, participation in a Distributed Innovation Workshop, enrollment in a Full Stack Bootcamp, and more. Submissions are evaluated by multidisciplinary experts who will select winners for each category, and an overall winner that will all receive a project spotlight across Fab City Foundation’s media channels.
