Fab City

2022-2023

INTERFACER

INTERFACER develops open digital infrastructure to support distributed and collaborative production. It connects makers, designers, and local production actors through federated platforms that enable sharing, coordination, and collective value chains. The project aligns directly with Fab City’s mission to couple local production with global knowledge exchange.

Project Impact.

INTERFACER strengthens the digital backbone of the Fab City ecosystem. It demonstrates how open platforms can enable distributed manufacturing networks without relying on centralized intermediaries. By testing federated infrastructures, it advances the practical implementation of cosmolocal production systems. For the Global Initiative, this is structural. Fab City has long advocated for open-source and collaborative models. INTERFACER translates that into working digital infrastructure that supports real coordination between local production actors across regions.

Project Outputs.

The project produces federated platform prototypes (such as the Fab City OS), open-source tools, governance frameworks for distributed value chains, and documented pilot cases. These outputs contribute to building interoperable digital layers that support the Fab City network’s distributed production ambitions.
